Recently, a friend let me shoot his Sig P239 in a target session.  I was impressed.  It feels good in the hand, and has a lot of punch with the .40 for a concealeable gun.  I thought it was easy to shoot.  Any advice or comments from the group will  be appreciated, before I decide to to buy.

honesty i know nothing about sigs other than they are good guns, my only suggestion is on caliber, i feel 45acp is the best defensive round, others may argue but from my gun dealer (he's a local police officer also) to my concealed carry instructer everyone i know who knows guns say carry a 45acp, also my  instructer said that a 45acp placed in a bad guys chest will completely end the confrontation 18 out of 20 times with 1 shot.               dont get me wrong im not saying dont buy it lord knows i have many guns i don't or am not allowed to carry(not illegal just ar's and such), anyway just my 2 cents.

.40 hollow points are an extremely effective round, and they must be for as many police departments that use them.  However, I personally think the .40 S&W is an over-pressured round, and I personally do not like using them. The only reason I can think of departments using them is 1. To like like they are being "progressive" with "newer" calibers or 2. So that their spent brass cannot be easily reloaded if found by someone (Glock .40 cases seem to almost always be swelled due to the over-pressure).

But I don;t know 100%.  Maybe someone else does. Oh, and back the the Sigs, they are all really solidly built guns, regardless of caliber.  If asked if you should purchase a Sig, the answer will always be a "yes" from me; that is after the individual gun has been checked over, of course.

Hey, KoRn - thanks for your thoughts.  The Sig P239 I used was easy to shoot, so I liked it.  It seemed like a big punch for a concealable pistol.  I really think I'll keep holding out for a compact style 1911 45.  Here in IL, we have never had concealed carry, and in our political climate, it probably won't happen in my lifetime.  So, maybe buying something for it's concealability shouldn't be much of a factor.  Anyway, I'll report on whatever I figure out on what best to buy.
